An unconventional poem for your wedding

June 17, 2015

Chemistry

Wedding poetry. There’s the classic, there’s the romantic, and then there’s the somewhat unconventional. I’ve always found myself drawn towards the last. In my never-ending hunt for beautiful quotes, poems, and readings for weddings, I recently came across this bite-size poem that somehow manages to say it all.

The only magic I still believe in

the only magic I still believe in is love

My search always continues for beautiful quotes to include in your wedding! I came across this little gem the other day. It was unattributed, and I wasn’t able to track down the original author. But isn’t it lovely? It would be perfect for invitations, favors, or decor.

“The only magic I still believe in is love.”

Hope you’re all having a magic- and love-filled week!

“I love your feet because they have wandered”

March 4, 2015

wedding-quote-2

As you know, I’m always on the lookout for beautiful wedding quotes that aren’t overly used (and aren’t overly cheesy). And let me tell you…they are hard to find. But every once in a while, I stumble upon one that is the perfect blend of poetry and simplicity. I’m tucking this one away for the next time a client asks me for a timeless quote to include on their ketubah. I think it’s going to be my new favorite.

The quote comes from a poem by Pablo Neruda, one of my all-time favorite writers.

Actually, I loved the quote so much, that I whipped up a little computer desktop background. You can download it here if you’d like it on your own computer!

It is an impossibility

Anne Morrow Lindburgh

The other day I came across this quote by Anne Morrow Lindburgh about love:

“When you love someone you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. The only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity, in freedom, in the sense that dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern. The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. One must accept the security of the winged life, of ebb and flow, of intermittency.”

Isn’t that true?

Neruda Quote

Every once in a while, someone will ask me how I came up with the idea for one of my ketubah designs.  Sometimes, I honestly can’t say.  Designs often pop into my head, and I have to be quick to get them down on paper before I get distracted and lose them.

Other times, I remember the exact moment of inspiration that led to a design.  The very first ketubah that I ever designed came to me while I was reading a verse by my favorite poet, Pablo Neruda.  The line goes, “Love is the mystery of water and a star.”  And to this day, I’ve never found another line that better describes my experience of being in love.  It still gives me chills.

Before I knew it, I was sketching out my “Full Moon at Sea” design, which is still one of my favorites. To me, it captures exactly what it feels like to be deeply in love. Drifting on a calm blue ocean while the moon and stars shine down and light your way.  And isn’t that what your ketubah should be all about?
